July 12, 2011: Ted Nygreen in Lusaka, the capital of ZAMBIA

Nancy and Ted Nygreen did a "Rotary safari vacation" in the summer of 2011, with our friends and Bronxville Rotarians Doris and Bob Benson (PDG) and David and Cheryne McBride.
Here is Ted Nygreen presenting the RCWP flag to club President Chansa Chiteba. The Lusaka club meets in the Southern Sun hotel for lunch on Tuesdays. Cost is 100,000 Kwacha per person, which includes a generous buffet and one small bottle of Coke (at 4900K per dollar, that's about $20 for lunch).

Here is PDG Bob Benson speaking to the Zambian Rotarians.
This was a "Rotary safari vacation" because we spent the entire time with Rotary-related business and people:
  • The first week was on a private game preserve in South Africa with Rotarian Joan Griessel, who has served as president of the Bela Bela Rotary club 9 times!
  • In Lusaka, Zambia, we visited the headquarters of COMACO, a company dedicated to eliminating animal poaching and training poor rural villagers to become productive farmers. Quite a success story, this organization has been sponsored/supported by the Bronxville Rotary Club.
  • Then we flew to Mfuwe, Zambia, where we toured the COMACO processing factory where the harvests are collected and processed to make commercial products: honey, peanut butter, rice, etc.
  • Finally we embarked on a safari that was purchased at a Rotary charity auction (bought by Ted).
Here's a photo of the three D7230 Rotarians in Africa (McBride, Nygreen, Benson):
